Thank GOD. A conversation.
“Yeah, I did. I’m actually older than pretty much all the other Starkid guys, so I was generally relegated to being the responsible one.” Nick laughed to himself. “A tough job, sure, but somebody’s gotta do it.” Nick’s face slowly faded into a much more serious tone. “You know, I’m just so grateful I found those guys. Growing up, I just heard the most hurtful things from the people I thought were the authority on everything. Calling me pipsqueak, poindexter, all the elementary school classics. I really didn’t think there was a chance in hell of me ever being appreciated, really, for anything. I had my brother, and that was it. And then I find Starkid, people who really connected to me on a genuine level. It was nice, ya know? It was nice to finally be cared about.”
Sam watched him as he spoke and she realized a small smile had formed on her face, the way he spoke so passionatly about his friends was something she wished she could do. She spoke lightly, still smiling,”Well, Nick. I’m really glad you found them… they seem to bring out the best in you,” She looked down at her hands that were resting on the table,”So you and your brother are really close?”
