“Yeah, I did. I’m actually older than pretty much all the other Starkid guys, so I was generally relegated to being the responsible one.” Nick laughed to himself. “A tough job, sure, but somebody’s gotta do it.” Nick’s face slowly faded into a much more serious tone. “You know, I’m just so grateful I found those guys. Growing up, I just heard the most hurtful things from the people I thought were the authority on everything. Calling me pipsqueak, poindexter, all the elementary school classics. I really didn’t think there was a chance in hell of me ever being appreciated, really, for anything. I had my brother, and that was it. And then I find Starkid, people who really connected to me on a genuine level. It was nice, ya know? It was nice to finally be cared about.”
Sam watched him as he spoke and she realized a small smile had formed on her face, the way he spoke so passionatly about his friends was something she wished she could do. She spoke lightly, still smiling,”Well, Nick.
